Not the same old grind
We continually evaluate, refine, and improve our manufacturing process and capabilities while staying true to the fine art of woodturning. A production process that combines traditional lathes with technology and automation. Factors that matter to the final product are a must to keep in sight, every day, for every stick we make. Details include a higher moisture content in our raw material for enhanced durability, a precise formulation for our classic finish, rigorous inspections for quality assurance, hand-rolling each stick twice for straightness, and pitch/weight paired by computer analysis.
Blood, sweat, tears…and sawdust
Our history is a drumstick-making story that goes back to the 1950s. It all started in the basement of Jack’s Drum Shop in Boston, making sticks for the store along with custom spec’d sticks for drumming icons like Buddy Rich, Elvin Jones and Philly Joe Jones. Fast forward to operating a proper factory where we manufactured drumsticks for Vic Firth and Zildjian, jumping ahead to launching the Vater brand in 1992, and the story continues today. Along the timeline, we have also manufactured sticks for many others, including Tama, Pearl, Sonor, Yamaha, Innovative, and others – in addition to providing drum shops around the world with their own in-house custom-branded sticks. The time passes, but our passion never wanes. Our factory is overseen by expert machinists, working drummers, and the Vater Family…all dedicated to producing products we are proud of and stand behind. Since day one, our quality standards have always been anything but standard.
